Katsuyama prospered as a post town and castle town on the Izumo Highway. In 60, it was designated as Okayama Prefecture's first "Townscape Preservation District" because of the old townscape with white walls and lattice windows, as well as storehouses.
In addition to nostalgic buildings such as old sake breweries, old houses, and samurai residences, there are studios, cafes, and galleries that make use of old folk houses and storehouses.
Today, the "noren" has become a symbol of Katsuyama, and is a feast for the eyes of tourists throughout the town.
In addition, the ruins of the Takasebune dock, which is said to have started in the Muromachi period, remain for about 700 meters along the Asahi River.
